Liberation Scotland

Liberation Scotland (LS) is the Scottish liberation movement dedicated to the lawful decolonisation of Scotland, the restoration of the Scottish Constitution, the reformation of Scotland’s political system, and the liberation of Scotland from the English colonial state through the exercise of the right of self-determination recognised under international law.

Liberation Scotland operates through two complementary structures:

  • The Liberation Scotland Committee, which leads the international campaign
  • Salvo, which leads the domestic civic and constitutional campaign within Scotland

Since June 2025, Liberation Scotland has been active within the United Nations system, engaging with the UN decolonisation framework, including:

  • The Special Committee on Decolonization (C-24)
  • The Special Political and Decolonization Committee (Fourth Committee, C-4) of the United Nations General Assembly

On 18 September 2025, 11 years after the rigged 2014 referendum organised by the English colonial state in Scotland, Liberation Scotland held a historic event the Palais des Nations at the United Nations Office at Geneva as a side event of the 60th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council. The session, titled “Scotland’s Path to Self-Determination Under International Law,” took place in Room S4 at the Palais des Nations and was supported by the Hong Kong-based NGO International Probono Legal Services Association (IPLSA), which has consultative status with the UN Economic and Social Council.

The programme brought international legal, historical, and human rights perspectives to bear on Scotland’s constitutional status. The panel was chaired by a Member of the Hong Kong Legislative Council, China, and concluded with remarks from the UN Independent Expert and former Greek Foreign Minister Georgios Katrougalos, underlining the significance of Scotland’s right to self-determination in an international law and human rights context.

This event marked a landmark moment in Scotland’s engagement with the UN system and has contributed to ongoing international discussion on constitutional recognition and decolonisation.

As a liberation movement, Liberation Scotland advances its objectives through peaceful, lawful, and democratic means, grounded in the UN Charter and the principle that all peoples have the right to determine their political status.

The movement is supported notably by leading constitutional authority Professor Robert Black King's Counsel, whose legal analysis concludes that Scotland was subject to annexation and territorial alienation, raising matters that warrant examination under contemporary international law.
